Shirley V. Hopkins

Shirley V. Hopkins

Born Shirley Ann Austin, she grew up during the Great Depression and World War II. She entered the convent at age 18 and took the name Sister Veronica. While in the convent, she taught English class and inspired the lives of many children, playing guitar and telling them stories. She stayed in the convent for over twenty years, until, due to the declining health of both her parents, she left in order to care for them in their final days.

After both of her parents passed, she still wanted to help others, so she started attending school for nursing. It was also during this time that she met Martin Hopkins, and they got married and had one son. She continued on as an LPN until her husband passed away, and returned to school at NYC Technical College where she recieved a full scholarship and graduated as a Registered Nurse and Valadictorian of her class.

She began her work in nursing in the field of geriatrics, but wanted to do more to help people that could recover, so she transferred first over to head trauma, and then finally into the field of mental health. It was there that she excelled, and spent the rest of her career helping those who did not have the ability to help themselves.

After a long life of putting others before herself, and changing the lives of countless people, she finally passed on in 2015. This company was her idea, and was discussed on what would become her deathbed. At the end, I told her "You have done good... and don't you correct my english, because that is exactly how I mean it. You have done good in this life, now it is time to rest."
